A visit to another castle.
We stopped along the way to take a few pictures. This is our friends Rick and Lavina from Manitoba.
Taking time to smell the roses.
This is the Rotteln castle ruins just outside of the city of Lorrach which is about 12 kilometers from us. We parked the car along the road side and hiked into the forest for about 30 minutes to get to this site.

Sunday afternoon drive and walk
This restored castle/palace is 3-4 miles from our house. (as the crow flies) We drove through a beautiful valley and forest to get there on Sunday and then hiked around the grounds.
Rick and Lavina Kroeker are visiting us from Winnipeg, Canada area. We had a fun day together. This is on the castle wall.
Interesting place for a flower pot way up there on the edge of the wall!
Beautiful wildflowers along the pathway.
Lizards sunning themselves on the moat wall around the castle.
First rose of summer?
Hochblauen is one of the highest points in our area. Jesse likes to hike the trail to this tower as often as he can. It is a hard hike uphill all the way! This is taken from the castle wall, which is about the half-way point in the hike from our house. It looks a lot closer than it really is.
A castle ruins seen from the palace wall. This is about 5 miles from our house and tucked in the Black Forest.

Waiting for my flight home!
Ellie and I had fun 'pondering' yard work before we finally got at it! I had planned to fly back to Germany late last week but since the flights were pretty full, I got to wait it out with some good friends near Chiacago. I did get back to Germany yesterday, leaving Chicago Monday evening. It is good to be home but oh boy! there is lots to do!
We did do some weeding and planted some flowers...honest!
Leaving Chiara Nicole was not easy! It did not take long to fall in love with her! Next time we are with her she will have grown and changed so much! I miss being there with Ben and Sharla as well. It was such a good time!
