Plums! Very tasty and in abundance as usual. I had to make a few jars of jam.

In an earlier post I showed pictures of the on-going construction in Kandern. It is rather annoying to say the least but must be done. I saw these folk hanging over the fence today and could not resist taking their picture. Every project needs some supervision, right? Well, there you go! These people were there for hours today. Others came and went!

We got invited to a birthday party tonight! As you can tell, the children were the most fun!!
This little sweetie was born on May 27th, same day as our grand daughter, Graci. Sure was fun to hold her!
Jesse entertaining the older kids.
Mom, son and Jesse. (We were the only white people besides the birthday Dad)

Another school year is underway!
Our theme for 2010.
Teaching staff making their way into the auditorium.
The parade of flags is always an awesome part of the opening ceremonies...this year 52 countries are represented in the student body! (The flags are carried in by the seniors...class of 2011!)
Phil Peters is the intern director for this year. He got everyone's attention by rappelling onto the stage from the rafters. He is a BFA grad from the class of 1976.
Phil Peters giving the opening address.
Students saying goodbye to their parents.

Around Kandern...
Every work day the stores and banks in the smaller towns are closed from 12:30 to 2:30 for 'mid-day break/rest'. While waiting for the stores to open this afternoon, I took a walk and took some pictures. It was such a beautiful day and it was fun to look for unique things!
I love the creative window boxes which add character to each of the buildings.
These flower arrangements are 8/9 feet tall and are placed in different places around the town square. They are absolutely beautiful!
An interesting way to decorate the street light! I wonder who gets to water these?
Kandern is known for its' pottery. It is here in stone!
Another fun display on the square, outside the basket/flower shop.

Our quaint little town of Kandern is a sad, frustrating mess right now. Very costly construction is being done along the sides of the stream that runs through town in preparation for the 100 year flood!??! Imagine buses, cars, bicycles, motor bikes, people, ambulances and don't forget the farmers on tractors!...all trying to get where they need to go on a one way street that was once the thoroughfare through town. Ugh!!
