Day off from work!

Today was an exciting day as we took the day off and drove over to France (about 18 km's from us) This is crossing the Rhine River into France.

Isle of Napoleon...back when Napoleon roamed around France, he had trees planted to shade him when he traveled down certain roads...hence the name.
Our first stop was Haut Koenigsbourg, a castle way high in the hills in France. Fresh snow last night meant the snow plows were out early.

By the time we were done at the castle it was time for lunch...we are not quite sure what this was but it was good! We thought we were ordering a salad to go with our meal but the white stuff is a pile of shredded cheese and the pink stuff was a sliced up hot dog(we think!!) That's the adventure of not knowing a foreign language(French)

This was Cordon Blu and french fries. That was very yummy!

Next stop was Struthof, a concentration camp from World war II. Unfortunately it was closed so we could only take pictures through the fence.

The Memorial(back side) for the people who lost their lives here. Below it is the cemetery.
The crematorium, note the smoke stack...

The jail, note the cross.

Next stop was the very historic town of Riquewihr. Part of it is a walled city and all the streets are old cobblestone.

This is a year round Christmas shop with lots of ornaments and Christmas things. We were not allowed to take pictures inside so I took some of their windows.

Please note...with about 7 cameras today, a lot of pictures were taken...so you will have lots more to see when the guys get back and boy! will they have stories to tell.
